Am I late for the “Star Wars Day” party? Yes? Oh well.
Thing is, I remember this trailer. And it didn’t seem so old fashioned at the time.
They had a Star Wars Day of sorts that year at summer camp. Turned out I was the only kid in the galaxy who had not seen the movie yet! How did that happen? I don’t know. I knew of the movie of course and was certainly intrigued, but I suppose I didn’t have enough boil in my blood to demand my parents take me now now now — that is, until this day at Camp Falcon. The celebration included a parade of characters still mysterious to me, quite a number of them either bun-headed chicks in white blankets or varies experiments in robots on wheels. It was all so fun and mysterious.
Not until August did I lose my Star Wars virginity. (So I guess it’s fitting that I should be late now for Star Wars Day?) I was a little young to quite get that stormtroopers and Darth Vader were not, in fact, robots. But didn’t matter. I was converted. And devoted… until Return of the Jedi came out, bringing me back to my senses six years later. Phew!
Happy space movie day, everybody!
