THE LOST SCRAPBOOK OF CADAVRA
In the early 1960’s, one of the few places where a fan could see color images of black and white TV shows with any regularity was in the pages of TV Guide magazine. The first seasons of both “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” and “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea” were aired in b&w (though UNCLE was actually shot in color to better accommodate the theatrical films that were shown in Europe), and these two color shots were some of the earliest published anywhere. The other venue for color photos of b&w shows were the covers of Dell and Gold Key comics - more on those later. In the top photo, Robert Vaughn demonstrates his technique with an UNCLE-issued weapon, while in the bottom shot David Hedison cavorts in a studio tank with a medium-sized model of the submarine Seaview, while two of the larger models are visible behind him. I had forgotten that “Voyage” was set in the near future: 1973. (Click on the image for a larger view.)
